First ride · young ridersThe easiest way into cycling.
XKIDS Balance teaches kids roughly 2–5 to ride, in the order that works: balance and confidence first, no training wheels, and pedals once they're ready.

Not sure if they are ready for balance bike or first pedal?
Why start on a balance bike
- Balance is the hard part of riding a bike. Pedaling is easy.
- Balance bikes let kids 2–5 learn that first — without the weight, fear, or bad habits training wheels create.
- Most XKIDS Balance riders transition to a pedal bike in a single afternoon.
The first ride pathway
Four simple stages. Each one unlocks the next.
- 01
Meet the bike
Sit, stand, walk the bike. Get comfortable with the shape and weight.
- 02
Glide
Push off, lift feet, glide a few meters. Confidence builds fast.
- 03
Balance
Longer glides, gentle turns, first bit of speed. This is where it clicks.
- 04
Pedal up
Ready to move to a small pedal bike — usually in one afternoon.
Friendly races for ages 2–5
Schedule, registration, and past results all live on the league page.
Ready for the next step
Once your rider is balanced and confident, two clear paths open up.
Move to XKIDS BMX
Race-focused pathway. Starter Gate level works well for riders coming off balance.
Move to XKIDS MTB
Outdoor, trail-focused riding. Trail Basics is the entry point for balance graduates.
